Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Tuesday called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip to protect civilians and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid supplies to the enclave.
This came during Sisi’s meeting with Director of the US Central Intelligence Agency William Burns in the presence of Director of the General Intelligence Abbas Kamel.
Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said that the meeting asserted the strength of strategic partnership between Egypt and the US and their pivotal role in maintaining security and stability in the Middle East.
The meeting also tackled the mutual keenness on supporting and boosting cooperation between Egypt and the US especially in the security and intelligence fields to support the efforts of restoring stability in the region, the spokesman said.
The spokesman said that the meeting took up a number of international and regional issues of mutual interest especially the Israeli military escalation in Gaza.
