CAIRO – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi called for concerted efforts of all international parties, including the European Union (EU), to secure a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, stop Israeli violations in the West Bank and allow full and immediate access of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian enclave.
President Sisi said the two-state solution, which guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, is the only method for bringing about peace and stability in the region.
The president made the remarks on Monday during his meeting with Manfred Weber, President of the European People’s Party (EPP), which is the largest political group in the European Parliament. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty was present at the meeting.
Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmi said President Sisi and Weber lauded the depth of Egypt-EU relations, which have recently been promoted to the comprehensive strategic partnership.
The EPP president highlighted the growing and tangled relations between the two sides, saying his political group is keen on increasing European investments in Egypt to advance the development process in the country.
The spokesman stated that the meeting took up the latest regional developments, where the European Parliament member commended Egypt’s firm and steadfast position on supporting regional stability, as well as its tireless efforts to settle the existing crises in the region.
