Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Friday received a phone call from US President Joe Biden, as they discussed efforts aimed at restoring regional stability.
During the phone conversation, President Sisi told Biden Egypt is continuing contacts with different regional parties to avert escalation, amid rising tensions in the Middle East, said Spokesman for the Presidency Ahmed Fahmy.
The spokesman added that the two leaders reviewed the results of Gaza ceasefire negotiations hosted by the Qatari capital, Doha, in the past two days.
The new round of negotiations comes in implementation of the joint statement by Egypt, the US and Qatar that calls on Israel and Hamas to reach an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and conduct a hostage-prisoner exchange.
President Sisi underlined the necessity of respecting the sovereignty of states and protecting the region from being dragged into a vicious circle of conflicts and violence.
On his part, Biden commended continued communication and consultation with President Sisi, which reflect the depth and strength of strategic relations between Egypt and the US.
The spokesman stated that the two presidents tackled the situation in Sudan, where President Sisi emphasized Egypt’s principled position on the Sudanese crisis, and keenness to urgently reach a ceasefire agreement in the Arab-African country.
In this regard, President Sisi expressed Egypt’s appreciation of all relevant initiatives that aim to stop the bloodshed in Sudan and preserve its unity and territorial integrity.
