RESIDENT Abdel Fattah El Sisi underscored the important role of the Association of the National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) in promoting interest in sports at the continental level, taking into account its effective impact in bringing people together around the world and instilling the spirit of sportsmanship and brotherhood.
The President’s remarks came as he received the president of the Association of the National Olympic Committees of Africa Mustapha Berraf in the presence of Minister of Sports Ashraf Sobhi and President of the Egyptian Olympic Committee Hisham Hatab, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said Tuesday.
During the meeting, President Sisi also praised the remarkable development taking place in African sport on the global stage, which was represented in the honourable performance of most African teams and players in international tournaments for various collective and individual sports.
The President also affirmed that the state has provided various means of support to holding the General Assembly of the African Olympic Committee in Cairo due to the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
He also indicated that Egypt is always ready to host all sports events at any time and provide all organisational, administrative and logistical capabilities to make them successful.
For his part, Berraf praised Egypt’s historical role as one of the African countries that excels in various collective and individual sports, especially as it is among the top countries that have won the African Games throughout history, which is an extension of the Egyptian leading position in Africa at the political, social and cultural levels.
Berraf also awarded President Sisi the Medal of Merit of the African Olympic Committee, which is considered one of the highest sporting awards in the African continent.
The president of the African Olympic Committee also expressed appreciation for all the facilities and equipment provided by Egypt to host the activities of the 19th General Assembly in Cairo, stressing confidence in Egypt’s success at all levels in hosting various sporting events globally and regionally.
