Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi attended the 39th Armed Forces Cultural Symposium on the occasion of the the Armed Forces’ celebration of the Martyr and Veteran’s Day, which is held at Al-Manara International Conference Center in New Cairo Saturday.

The symposium was attended by Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouli, General Mohamed Zaki, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of Defense and Military Production, and a number of senior statesmen and military commanders.

Egypt and the Armed Forces celebrate on the 9th of March every year the “Martyr’s Day”, which coincides with the anniversary of the martyrdom of General Abdel Moneim Riad in 1969, while he was among his valiant soldiers on the Suez Canal front during the War of Attrition.

The celebration began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an.

At the outset of the symposium, a documentary film produced by the Armed Forces Morale Affairs Department was screened, highlighting the sacrifices of the martyrs throughout history.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and attendees stood to salute the martyrs. The martyr’s anthem was played.

The president witnessed a show presented by soldiers depicting the sacrifices of servicemen for the homeland during any time of danger or plight.

The soldiers asserted the Martyr’s Day is an occasion that reflects the glory of the homeland.

A documentary, titled “Heroes From My Country” was screened to spotlight the sacrifices of the martyrs of the homeland throughout modern history to defend the causes of the Arab world starting from the 1948 War.

Egypt offered hundreds of thousands of martyrs to support the Palestinian cause, the movie showed.

The film highlighted Egypt’s war against terrorists in Sinai and the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces personnel to uproot terrorism in the peninsula.

The movie also reflected the greater interest of the military institution in supporting the heroes, who were wounded in military operations and helping them ride out their difficulties.

Following the documentary, a group of martyrs’ children spoke about the sacrifices of their parents.

The children also expressed their wishes to follow in the footsteps of the martyrs and defend the homeland.
