JEDDAH – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi affirmed his country’s keenness on enhancing the distinguished partnership ties that links Cairo and Washington.
The role of this partnership is crucial in promoting peace and stability in the Middle East, added President Sisi during his meeting with US President Joe Biden for the first time in Jeddah on Saturday.
Egypt is also interested in bolstering strategic coordination and consultation with the US vis-a-vis various regional issues, added President Sisi.
Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi, meanwhile, said that the US president affirmed his country’s keenness on activating frameworks of bilateral cooperation and enhancing coordination and strategic consultation with Egypt within the upcoming stage.
Biden pointed out to Egypt’s pivotal role in the Middle East under the wise leadership of President Sisi which represents a key pillar for maintaining peace and security in the region, according to the spokesman.
The spokesman also said that the meeting took up Egypt-US cooperation in various spheres, including cooperation in ways to confront the repercussions of the global crisis associated with the food crisis and the power supply disruptions.
The meeting also tackled a host of regional files, said the spokesman, adding that President Sisi affirmed Egypt’s steadfast stand on the importance of strengthening the pillars and national institutions of countries in crises to end the suffering of their peoples.
The two sides further discussed the Palestinian cause and ways to revive the stalled-peace process.
President Sisi affirmed Egypt’s firm position toward the Palestinian cause and the importance of reaching a just and comprehensive solution that guarantees the rights of the Palestinian and the establishment of their independent state in accordance with international references, added the spokesman.
President Sisi also said that Egypt is keen on cooperating with the US to discuss ways to revive the Palestinian-Israeli peace process.
For his part, the US president voiced appreciation for Egypt’s efforts to entrench peace in the region as well as its key role in calming down the situation between the Palestinian and Israeli sides along with the Gaza reconstruction initiatives.
The two presidents also probed the latest developments in the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) file, said the spokesman.
President Sisi stressed the vital need to reach a binding legal agreement on filling and operating the GERD in a manner that preserves Egypt’s water security and achieves the three countries’ interests, added the spokesman.
