Chairman of the State Information Service (SIS) Ambassador Alaa Youssef received on Sunday Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Egypt Liao Liqiang to discuss ways of strengthening bilateral co-operation in the media sector and further advancing the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
As the meeting started, Ambassador Youssef underscored the remarkable progress in Egyptian-Chinese relations across a wide range of fields, attributing this momentum to the shared vision and guidance of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and President Xi Jinping.
He noted that the partnership between the two countries has reached unprecedented levels in recent years, reflecting the depth and strength of their strategic ties.
The discussions reaffirmed that Egypt and China, as two nations with ancient civilisations, share a long history of cooperation and continue to play influential regional and international roles in promoting stability, sustainable development and peace.
Both sides highlighted the enduring significance of the bilateral relationship, recalling Egypt’s distinction as the first Arab country to recognise the People’s Republic of China in 1956.
This historic step laid the foundations for a robust political and economic partnership, with China now standing as one of Egypt’s principal partners in trade, investment and development, particularly in light of Egypt’s ambitious national projects and comprehensive development agenda.
Ambassador Youssef further reviewed the SIS’s efforts to enhance communication with Chinese audiences through the publication of multilingual media content, including material in Chinese, the operation of dedicated Chinese-language online platforms, and the continued provision of support and facilities for accredited Chinese correspondents working in Egypt.
He also commended the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in deepening Egypt’s relations with China and strengthening coordination with international partners in support of the country’s national interests and the expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation.
For his part, Ambassador Liao expressed his appreciation for the exceptional level of relations between Egypt and China, praising the close understanding and coordination between the leaderships of the two countries, which has driven significant growth in bilateral co-operation.
He reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Egypt’s development efforts and expanding collaboration across a broad range of sectors, highlighting Egypt’s pivotal regional and international position.
The meeting concluded with discussions on enhancing co-operation under the existing agreements and memoranda of understanding between the Service and several leading Chinese institutions, including Xinhua News Agency, the State Council Information Office, and the All-China Journalists Association, with the aim of further strengthening media collaboration and professional exchange.
