Egypt’s Ministry of Finance has announced that it will issue a commemorative silver medal celebrating the national football team’s historic qualification for the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup for the first time, according to a statement released by the Ministry on Thursday.
Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk said the medal commemorates the team’s landmark achievement, expressing his delight at both the squad’s success and the nationwide support shown by Egyptians.
“I am extremely happy that our team has reached the knockout stage and that all Egyptians have come together to support a team that has made us proud,” he said.
Kouchouk also extended his best wishes to the players and coaching staff, expressing hope that the team’s journey in the tournament will continue successfully.
Head of Egypt’s Public Treasury and Mint Authority, Gamal Hussein, said the commemorative medal will be struck in 900-grade silver and feature a distinctive design combining the symbolism of the global sporting event with Egypt’s rich cultural heritage.
The medal will be available for purchase through the Egyptian Mint’s official sales outlet starting in mid-July.
