Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry stressed Egypt’s full rejection of the forced displacement of the Palestinians or liquidating the Palestinian cause, asserting that these ideas can never realize regional stability.
He made the remarks during a meeting on Wednesday with an eight-strong US delegation of the House of Representatives and Senate under Senator Joni Ernst, currently visiting Egypt within the framework of a regional tour, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said.
Shoukry highlighted the strategic partnership between Egypt and the US, noting that Egypt is looking forward to enhancing ties at the political, economic, trade and military levels.
He expounded that the turbulent regional and international conditions impose intensifying cooperation mechanisms to realize peace and security in the Middle East.
The talks tackled a host of regional issues, topped by the situation in the Gaza Strip.
Shoukry highlighted the importance of allowing aid into the Gaza Strip to meet the Palestinians’ needs, looking forward to the full implementation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2720 to help maintain a swift and sustainable assistance into the enclave.
Shoukry underlined the importance of halting attacks on civilians and giving a top priority to immediate and comprehensive ceasefire.
He asserted that international players, topped by the US, have to shoulder their responsibility to halt the Israeli violations in Gaza.
As for risking the expansion of the conflict outside the enclave, he said the latest developments highlighted the gravity of expanding the conflict, especially in light of growing tension in Lebanon, Iraq and Syria.
He underlined the importance of the security of the Red Sea to ensure international trade navigation.
Meanwhile, the US delegation stressed the importance of the strategic partnership and ties with Egypt.
The delegation asserted keenness on consultation and cooperation with Egypt vis-à-vis regional and international issues.
The US team voiced appreciation to Egypt’s efforts to facilitate access of humanitarian assistance into the enclave, secure return of foreigners from the enclave and facilitate captive release deals.
Shoukry was keen to answer all questions of the US delegation on Egypt’s vision on the future solution of the Palestinian cause as well as available alternatives to defuse tension of the current escalation in the Middle East.
