Israel’s violations against the Palestinians, especially against women and children, amount to war crimes, said Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Tuesday.

During a meeting with Sima Bahous, Under Secretary of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN-Women), the foreign minister called for an immediate ceasefire and the delivery of aid to the Gazans.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said Shoukry discussed with the UN official means to improve deteriorating conditions in the Palestinian enclave and halt Israeli attacks against the Palestinians especially against women and children.

The foreign minister called on the international community to shoulder responsibility towards halting the collective punishments against the Palestinians, ending the forced displacement and the destruction of infrastructure.

For her part, the UN official lamented the deteriorating conditions of women in the Gaza Strip particularly in the presence of more 55,000 pregnant women in the Palestinian enclave.

The UN official added that she listened to Shoukry’s explanation on the situation and Egypt’s contacts at political and humanitarian tracks.
