CAIRO – Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said on Sunday that Egypt will continue to boost bilateral relations and coordination with China on regional and international issues.

Shoukry’s remarks came in a joint press conference with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi at the end of their talks in Cairo.

He hailed relations with China pointing out that Egypt was the first Arab and African country to establish relations with China.

Shoukry added that Egypt has been supporting the one-China principle, seeking to establish sound relations and coordinating stances on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

He said that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received the Chinese minister who conveyed to him a verbal message from the Chinese president congratulating him on his win in the recently-held presidential election.

The President received an invitation to visit China and invited the Chinese president to visit Egypt, said Shoukry.

Shoukry and his Chinese counterpart had discussed distinguished relations and other issues of mutual interest, including the situation in the Gaza Strip.
