Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye received Egypt’s ambassador, Khaled Aref, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in the economic, investment and development fields, Egypt’s embassy said.
The meeting highlighted the distinguished political and historic ties between the two countries, as well as growing momentum in bilateral relations, the embassy said in a statement.
Aref conveyed Egypt’s commitment to further developing cooperation with Senegal in pursuit of the shared interests of both peoples.
Faye sent his greetings to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and described Egypt as a key African country with a special standing, according to the statement.
He said relations with Egypt were a personal priority and praised the Egyptian embassy’s efforts to promote contacts between institutions and officials in both countries.
Faye also stressed the importance of continued co-ordination between Cairo and Dakar in addressing Africa’s security, economic and social challenges.
Separately, Aref met Senegalese Minister of African Integration and Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad Cheikh Niang. The two officials discussed expanding economic, trade and investment cooperation, as well as coordinating on African and regional issues of mutual concern.
