The General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) announced on Sunday that Ain Sokhna Port has received the bulk carrier MV CENTURY EAGLE at berth 27 of the TransCargo International (TCI) Terminal, marking the terminal’s first commercial cargo handling operation and the official commencement of its operational activities.
Flying the Marshall Islands flag, the vessel arrived carrying a shipment of factory supplies and Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA), a key industrial raw material widely used in the production of polyester and the petrochemical industry.
The shipment represents an important step in supporting manufacturing activities and ensuring the continued availability of essential production inputs.
The CENTURY EAGLE has a deadweight tonnage of 52,483 tonnes, measures approximately 190 metres in length with a beam of 32.26 metres, and was built in 2004.
The authority stated that the vessel’s arrival expands the operational capacity of Ain Sokhna Port and enhances the efficiency of general cargo handling services, further strengthening the port’s role in supporting trade, logistics and industrial activity within the Suez Canal Economic Zone.
The authority added that receiving the shipment reflects Ain Sokhna Port’s growing role as a strategic logistics hub supporting regional and international supply chains by securing the flow of factory supplies and critical raw materials required by the industrial sector.
The development also aligns with the SCZone’s ongoing strategy to modernise and expand its integrated port infrastructure, increase cargo handling capacity and accommodate a wider range of cargo types.
These efforts are designed to keep pace with the rapid industrial growth taking place across the Suez Canal Economic Zone while reinforcing its position as a leading regional centre for industry, trade and logistics.
