As part of efforts to strengthen economic and investment co‑operation between Egypt and Panama, Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) Mustafa Shekhoun received Panama’s Ambassador to Cairo Ricardo Icaza to discuss opportunities for deeper collaboration and strategic partnership.
During the meeting, Shekhoun highlighted the strong relations between the two countries, noting that the meeting builds on the successful partnership between the SCZone and Panama’s Colon Free Zone. He said the co‑operation aims to create new opportunities for sustainable development, exchange logistics and industrial expertise, and leverage the competitive advantages of both sides.
He added that the SCZone serves as a strategic gateway to African and Middle Eastern markets through its ports on the Red Sea and Mediterranean, while Panama provides access to Latin American markets, helping to boost Egyptian exports and strengthen global supply chains amid current geopolitical challenges.
For his part, the Panamanian ambassador praised bilateral ties, noting that the visit comes as part of preparations for an upcoming visit by Panama’s Foreign Minister to Egypt, which will include a tour of the SCZone to learn more about its development achievements and growing international position as a leading economic and logistics hub.
The ambassador also invited the SCZone chairman to visit Panama during the first half of next year to explore new opportunities for investment co‑operation and business integration between the two countries.
