Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), Admiral Osama Rabie, met on Wednesday with Chairman of Kenya’s Tunasco, Abdul Wali Sharif, to discuss opportunities for co-operation in the construction, development and operation of ports in Kenya.
The meeting, held at the SCA’s headquarters at the Guidance Building in Ismailia Governorate, focused on establishing a framework for potential co-operation between SCA and Tunasco, with a particular emphasis on supporting Kenya’s maritime infrastructure and expanding the two sides’ activities in the African market.
Director of the Companies Department, Abdel Hakim Zakaria, Chairman of Timsah Shipbuilding Company, Engineer Ahmed Ibrahim, and members of the Board of Directors of the Kenyan-Egyptian joint venture, Major General Ihab Abdel Fattah and Major General Assem El-Safty were present at the meeting.
The two sides explored the possibility of establishing a partnership with the Kenyan side, through its subsidiary Timsah Shipbuilding Company, to create a specialised entity dedicated to port operations and marine construction in Kenya.
During the meeting, Admiral Rabie highlighted the authority’s strategic objective of expanding its activities across African markets and contributing to infrastructure development through partnerships with African countries.
He affirmed the SCA’s readiness to support the development of Kenya’s maritime infrastructure by providing its expertise in port operations, marine construction, dredging, vessel construction and maintenance, as well as maritime training and capacity building.
The Tunasco chairman, for his part, expressed interest in strengthening co-operation with the Suez Canal Authority and benefiting from its extensive technical expertise, specialised capabilities and human resources across the maritime sector.
He noted that the proposed co-operation has received a positive response from the Kenyan government, reflecting the strengthening of relations between Egypt and Kenya in recent years.
Tunasco maintains an established presence in Kenya and is involved in a range of infrastructure development projects.
