Under directives from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to develop Egypt’s lakes, the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) and the Future of Egypt for Sustainable Development (Mostaqbal Misr) signed a cooperation protocol on Thursday.

The agreement was signed during a ceremony attended by SCA Chairman Vice Admiral Osama Rabie and Mostaqbal Misr Executive Director Colonel DR. Bahaa El-Ghannam at the Suez Canal Yacht Marina in Ismailia.

Under the protocol, the SCA will carry out dredging and cleaning works in targeted lakes based on technical plans and coordinates set by the Mostaqbal Misr Authority.

Rabie said the SCA aims to expand its role in national development projects with economic and environmental impact.

He noted that the SCA has extensive expertise in dredging operations and has previously participated in restoring lakes including Bardawil, Manzala, Edku and Mariout.

He added that these efforts support environmental balance and help increase fish production.

Rabie also highlighted the SCA’s strategy to diversify revenues beyond canal transit fees through logistics services, maritime industries and participation in major national projects.

For his part, El-Ghannam said that Mostaqbal Misr is implementing Egypt’s strategy to develop lakes and maximize their environmental and economic value.

He added that the project aims to improve natural resource management, support food security and fisheries, and create sustainable productive communities around the lakes.

The two sides also agreed to form a joint working group to explore future areas of cooperation.
