Chairman of Egypt’s Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Admiral Osama Rabie has reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to prioritising the interests and needs of its clients, while continuously developing its maritime services and strengthening the Canal’s position as a leading global waterway.
Rabie met on Monday with Chief Executive Officer of Lloyd’s List Intelligence Waqas Samad at the Authority’s Guidance Building in Ismailia Governorate.
The discussions focused on boosting co-operation and coordination between the two organisations and exploring opportunities to enhance engagement in the maritime and global trade sectors.
The SCA places the interests and needs of its clients at the forefront of its priorities and remains committed to continuously developing its maritime services.
We are pursuing ongoing improvements to the Canal’s navigational waterway and modernising our fleet of marine units to enhance the efficiency, safety and competitiveness of transit operations, Rabie said during the meeting.
The visit marked the first time that the Chief Executive Officer of Lloyd’s List Intelligence had visited the authority, providing an opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the authority’s activities and the comprehensive maritime and logistical services it provides to its client.
Admiral Rabie highlighted the authority’s adoption of flexible marketing policies designed to respond to changing market conditions and the evolving requirements of the global shipping industry.
He also pointed to a number of initiatives supporting the maritime sector’s green transition, in line with the directives of the International Maritime Organisation aimed at protecting the marine environment and reducing carbon emissions.
“Developing the Canal’s services is an ongoing process that responds to developments in the global maritime industry and the changing requirements of our clients,” Lieutenant General Rabie said.
“Our objective is to maintain the Canal’s competitiveness and ensure that it continues to provide reliable and efficient services to international shipping.”
CEO of Lloyd’s List Intelligence, Waqas Samad, voiced appreciation for the visit, noting that it offered valuable first-hand insight into the Suez Canal’s operations and its strategic importance to global trade.
He stressed that the Suez Canal remains a vital international waterway connecting East and West and plays a critical role in supporting the resilience and continuity of global supply chains, particularly amid the challenges facing international maritime trade.
Samad also commended the authority for its efforts to manage successive challenges and crises, as well as its continued communication with shipping clients to safeguard the continuity and efficiency of vessel transit operations.
He expressed his hope that stability would return to the region, supporting a positive recovery in Canal traffic volumes.Following the meeting, Admiral Rabie and Samad undertook a cruise along the Suez Canal, providing an opportunity to observe the waterway and its operations first-hand.
The programme also included a visit to the Suez Canal Museum and an inspection of the Maritime Training and Simulation Academy.
