The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has inaugurated the Al-Nasr Floating Bridge 2, a new crossing linking the cities of Port Said and Port Fouad. The move is part of efforts to expand transportation links across the canal and support regional development.

The opening ceremony was attended by SCA Chairman Vice Admiral Osama Rabie and Port Said Governor Ibrahim Abu Limon, along with military, security, and local officials.

Located 170 metres from the existing Al-Nasr Floating Bridge, the new crossing is expected to improve traffic flow between the two cities. Together, the two bridges can accommodate up to 25,000 vehicles per day. The new bridge also allows the passage of trucks carrying loads of up to 100 tonnes, compared with 70 tonnes on the original bridge.

The structure is 428 metres long, 15 metres wide, and consists of five steel pontoons, including three movable sections that open to allow vessels to transit the canal.

The bridge was designed by the Port Said Shipyard and incorporates solar-powered lighting.

According to the SCA, construction of the bridge’s steel structure took eight months and involved around 1,000 engineers and workers.

Rabie said crossings across the canal have expanded significantly over the past few years and now include 26 links, ranging from tunnels and ferries to floating bridges. He added that around 40 million vehicles have crossed the canal through these routes since 2019.

The SCA is also studying a new bridge project for Port Fouad and continuing efforts to localise maritime industries, including tugboat and fishing vessel construction.
