CAIRO – Romanian President Klaus Iohannis said Egypt is playing a pivotal role in maintaining security at the regional and international levels in view of its distinguished location which links Africa, Middle East and Europe.
He made the remarks on Wednesday during a joint press conference with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi at Egypt’s Ittihadiya Palace.
He said Romania and Europe as a whole consider Egypt as an important regional state.
He noted that his talks with Sisi tackled means of promoting bilateral co-operation, especially in the economic score.
He added that the joint committee will play a key role in enhancing co-operation between the two countries and incentivise a large number of joint economic projects.
The Romanian president noted that he agreed with Sisi on the importance of finding new ways to realise the optimal development co-operation in various domains, including energy, agriculture, communications and IT, cyber security, education, scientific research and innovation.
He said Egypt and Romania will work together in the coming period to encourage businessmen to launch new joint projects.
Romanian President Klaus Iohannis said Egypt and Romania are interested in stabilizing conditions in the Middle East and neighboring areas.
The two countries are interested in managing immigration effectively and adopting sustainable economic development, peace and stability strategies, he added.
The Romanian president underlined his country’s support for Egypt efforts – in collaboration with international partners – to find the best solutions to the crises in Africa and the Middle East.
He added that his country maintained a balanced position in conformity with the international law with regard to all crises in the Middle East.
He said Romania is for applying measures that would build more confidence in the Palestinian-Israeli ties, stressing support for paving the way for resuming direct negotiations towards a two-state solution to ensure durable peace in the region.
As for the Syrian crisis, he said it is a priority to find a perpetual solution to the Syrian crisis that caused great tragedies to the Syrian people over the past ten years.
Meanwhile, he underlined his country’s support for realizing stability, supporting institutions as well as democratic transition in Libya and Iraq.
He added that his country is engaged in anti-terrorism efforts and works within the framework of the alliance against Daesh as well as in the Sahel region – which has to do with security in North Africa and Europe.
He added that his country will work on coming up with solutions that would promote durable peace.
At the end of his speech, he thanked President Sisi for this good talks, voicing confidence that the Egyptian-Romanian ties will witness more progress and development for the best interests of both sides.
