‘Reinforce Suez Canal status’

The Danish container ship Munkebo Maersk (200,000 tons) used the waterway canal heading from Morocco to Singapore, while the Panamanian container ship HMM Stockholm (240,000 tons) coming from China to Spain, transited the canal from the south.

Development of the Suez Canal must continue in accordance with directives from the political leadership to reinforce the unique strategic status as an international trade lifeline, chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Osama Rabie said on Wednesday.

Development of the waterway includes improving the canal’s ability to deal with potential emergency conditions, Rabie added.

Eighty-two ships (total net tonnage of 4.7 million) transited the Suez Canal yesterday in both directions without waiting.

Thirty-nine vessels (total net tonnage of 2.1 million) transited north-south 43 ships (total net tonnage of 2.6 million) went south-north.

The Danish container ship Munkebo Maersk (200,000 tons) used the waterway canal heading from Morocco to Singapore, while the Panamanian container ship HMM Stockholm (240,000 tons) coming from China to Spain, transited the canal from the south.
