The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, on Monday received Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli and praised the development and positive momentum in bilateral relations.
Dr Madbouli had arrived in Doha on Sunday evening, beginning an official visit within the framework of the keenness of both countries on developing bilateral relations in various fields, a Cabinet statement said.
At the outset of the meeting, the Emir of Qatar welcomed the Egyptian delegation’s visit and emphasised that President Sisi’s presence at the opening of the World Cup championship was an important message confirming the development of the Egyptian-Qatari relations, the Cabinet statement said.
He also expressed thanks to Egyptians working in Qatar for their efforts and tangible, positive role they undertake on the land of Qatar, the statement added.
Emir Tamim noted that the Egyptian economy was going very well during the past years and Egypt was making rapid progress in various sectors, but the coronavirus pandemic came and was followed by the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, affecting Egypt as it did to other countries of the world.
The Egyptian state, he added, still has very great potentials; and it is important to continue efforts and development plans, indicating that the coming period will witness an increase in the volume of Qatari investments in Egypt, increasing the volume of co-operation between the two countries in all possible fields.
For his part, PM Madbouli outlined Egypt’s current efforts to encourage domestic and foreign investment, and to strengthen the role of the private sector.
He also reviewed a number of investment opportunities, stressing that Qatari investments in various sectors are always welcomed.
Later in the day on Monday, PM Madbouli and Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani oversaw the signing of an agreement to eliminate double taxation on income and prevent tax evasion or avoidance.
The agreement was signed on the Egyptian side by Minister of Finance Mohamed Maeet and Qatari Minister of Finance Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari.
Cabinet Spokesman Nader Saad said that the agreement is a translation of the desire of the two countries to develop economic relations and enhance bilateral co-operation in various fields, including the tax field, in a way that contributes to achieving tax justice, equal opportunities between investors, and overcoming any obstacles that they may face.
He added, “This agreement is consistent with the Egyptian government’s efforts aimed at creating a business environment that is more stimulating for investments and attracting the local and foreign private sector to participate in a greater role in economic activity, in a way that makes it a driver of growth, and contributes to maximising our production capabilities and expanding the export base.”
Meanwhile, the Egyptian and Qatari prime ministers held an expanded session of talks during which they stressed that the Egyptian-Qatari relations are old and well-established, and there are many areas to strengthen these relations during the coming period.
For his part, the Qatari prime minister stressed that Qatar is looking forward to strengthening its relations with Egypt in various fields, and that the coming period will witness more co-operation, especially in terms of Qatari investments in Egypt.
The Qatari PM also praised the signing of an agreement to prevent double taxation between the two countries, stressing that it will have a tangible impact on increasing and encouraging Qatari investments in Egypt.
