Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsy attended on Monday the opening of Qatar Charity’s office in Egypt, alongside Cairo Governor Ibrahim Saber, Qatar Charity Chairman Sheikh Hamad bin Nasser Jassim Al Thani, Qatar’s Ambassador to Egypt Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and a number of public figures.
Morsy welcomed the opening, describing it as a new step that reflects the strong ties between Egypt and Qatar and creates wider opportunities for institutional and humanitarian cooperation.
She said the new office could build on existing cooperation between the two countries, particularly in responding to crises and supporting relief efforts.
She cited Egyptian-Qatari cooperation in meeting urgent humanitarian needs in Gaza in October 2025, coordinated through Egypt’s national mechanism for humanitarian aid to the Palestinian territory.
The minister stressed that social and humanitarian work becomes more effective when based on partnership, trust and the exchange of expertise.
Cooperation among different organisations, she added, helps ensure that assistance reaches people in need at the right time and place.
Morsy said the opening of the office would provide a new platform for communication and coordination, helping make partnerships closer, more regular and sustainable.
She added that the Ministry of Social Solidarity views civil society organisations as key partners in social development.
She also welcomed initiatives that strengthen cooperation between Egyptian and Arab institutions and promote the exchange of knowledge and expertise through professional and transparent partnerships.
For his part, Qatar’s Ambassador to Egypt Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said the opening marked a new step in the longstanding ties between the two countries, which are based on historical and popular bonds and a shared commitment to expanding cooperation across various fields.
He described humanitarian and charitable work as an important bridge for promoting solidarity among communities and supporting sustainable development.
The ambassador said Qatar Charity has extensive experience in humanitarian and development work, with programmes supporting education, healthcare and social welfare.
He added that establishing an office in Egypt would help expand humanitarian and development programmes in line with the needs and priorities of Egyptian society.
He stressed that coordination with national institutions and relevant authorities is essential to ensure that aid reaches those who need it and achieves the greatest possible impact.
