Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar announced that the Presidential Public Health Initiatives have offered 289,359,000 medical services to millions of citizens since the launch of the first initiative under the “100 Million Healthy Lives” campaign in 2018.
The system, which now comprises 16 initiatives, offers free screening, early detection and treatment to all age groups, contributing to earlier intervention, improved quality of life and reduced disease costs while supporting productivity and the national economy, the minister said on Monday.
The initiatives have screened more than 60 million citizens for Hepatitis C and non-communicable diseases, alongside 71.8 million primary-school students for malnutrition and 19.4 million students for Hepatitis C and non-communicable diseases, Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar said.
More than 10.2 million newborns have undergone hearing screenings, while 4 million students benefited from eye-health services, he added.
Women’s health initiatives recorded more than 72.1 million visits, while over 4.1 million women received maternal and fetal health services.
More than 23 million citizens underwent chronic and kidney disease screening, alongside 2.3 million elderly people and 5.7 million citizens receiving premarital genetic disease screening.
Also, more than 20.3 million citizens were screened for lung, colon, prostate and cervical cancers, while mental-health services covered psychological, cognitive and autism screening and follow-up.
The ministry spokesman noted that that the initiatives have become strategic national investments. Hepatitis C screening generated a 359 per cent return, saving around LE16 billion in medical costs and LE6.9 billion in productivity losses.
Women’s health achieved a 57 per cent return, newborn hearing screening 245 per cent, while maternal and fetal care saved around LE1.8 billion, with a 43 per cent return. The initiatives also reduced mortality associated with hypertension by 32.6 per cent and diabetes by 26 per cent.
