President Abdel Fattah El Sisi stressed Egypt’s unequivocal condemnation and absolute rejection of Iran’s targeting of Gulf states, as well as Jordan and Iraq, during a phone call on Friday with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

President Sisi emphasised that these brotherly countries neither supported nor participated in the war against Iran, but instead contributed to efforts aimed at de-escalation and backed the Iranian–American negotiations in pursuit of a diplomatic solution to the crisis.

The president voiced Egypt’s hope that the principle of good neighborliness would prevail and called for an immediate cessation of the attacks. He also voiced Egypt’s deep regret over the current escalation and its profound concern regarding its negative repercussions for regional stability and the well-being and resources of the region’s peoples.

President Sisi also reviewed Egypt’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to halt military operations and restore the negotiating track, stressing the importance of demonstrating flexibility in order to facilitate a peaceful settlement.

For his part, Pezeshkian expressed appreciation for Egypt’s efforts and for President Sisi’s role in working to contain the escalation. He affirmed that Iran had participated in several rounds of negotiations aimed at reaching an agreement on the Iranian nuclear programme and stressed his country’s keenness to maintain fraternal relations and good neighborly ties with Arab states.

The two leaders also discussed possible avenues to end the current escalation, with President Sisi reiterating Egypt’s readiness to exert all possible efforts to mediate and promote political and diplomatic solutions to the crisis.

He further underscored the need for all parties to respect international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter, including respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states and non-interference in their internal affairs.
