President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met in New Alamein on Monday with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Education and Technical Education Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif, and Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister Abdelaziz Konsowa to review preparations for the 2026/2027 academic year.

The meeting covered preparations across schools, institutes and universities.

During the meeting, El-Sisi directed the expansion of exhibitions offering school supplies at affordable prices ahead of the new academic year, while stressing the need to ensure the minimum wage is applied to all school staff, including teachers, technicians and administrators.

He also called for stronger oversight of school fees to ease financial burdens on students and parents.

The meeting also reviewed mechanisms for implementing the Egyptian Baccalaureate system, including its examination rules, study regulations and assessment mechanisms.

Minister of Education Abdel Latif said the Egyptian Baccalaureate curricula had received accreditation from the International Baccalaureate educational organisation.El-Sisi stressed that examinations must be based exclusively on ministry-issued textbooks, assessment books and relevant practice tests.

He also underscored the importance of Arabic, religious education and history and ensuring they are taught according to ministry-approved curricula.

On higher education, Konsowa outlined plans to launch international programmes and dual and joint degrees, expand partnerships with global universities and establish branches of foreign universities in Egypt.

He also reviewed efforts to develop university hospitals, with El-Sisi stressing the need to ensure high-quality education and healthcare services. The president further directed universities and research centres to study national challenges and propose practical solutions, while continuing to digitise university systems to ensure education quality and objective assessment.

Regarding university admissions, El-Sisi stressed the importance of preparing graduates whose skills match local and international labour-market needs, alongside initiatives to support talented and outstanding students.

The meeting also reviewed preparations for the 12th African Universities Games, scheduled to be held in Cairo on September 8 -16 this year, with El-Sisi directing that the event be organised to the highest standards.
