President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Thursday chaired a meeting to review co-operation between the petroleum and industrial sectors and efforts to strengthen Egypt’s productive capacity.
The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi and Industry Minister Khaled Hashem.
Presidency Spokesperson Mohamed El-Shennawy said the meeting discussed efforts to boost regional energy co-operation, expand industrial production, deepen local manufacturing and increase the added value of national production.
Badawi reviewed the key outcomes of the Egypt Mining Forum, noting participants’ appreciation of Sisi’s interest in the mining sector and his directives to remove obstacles to investment.
He also reviewed the petroleum sector’s performance during the 2025/2026 fiscal year, including developments in crude oil, condensate and natural gas production and exploration, as well as new discoveries and additions to reserves.
The minister also highlighted the international recognition of Egypt’s oil and gas sector, as well as co-operation with the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade to promote oil and gas projects and attract local and foreign investment.
Hashem reviewed efforts to localise supporting and complementary industries, particularly refractory materials, alloys, engineering industries and foundries.
The meeting also discussed ways to maximise the use of scrap locally and attract related industrial investments.
Hashem outlined measures to deepen Egypt’s steel industry, expand the processing of locally available raw materials and maximise their economic value.
The meeting also addressed land allocated for industrial zones. Sisi directed the authorities to take the necessary steps to withdraw vacant and unused industrial land to ensure its optimal use.
The meeting further discussed enhancing industrial co-operation with African countries and the European Union to support production, exports and technology transfer.
Sisi directed the government to continue facilitating procedures for establishing new factories in priority sectors under the national industrial strategy, while intensifying efforts to attract foreign direct investment and accelerate industrial localisation to consolidate Egypt’s productive capacity and competitiveness.
