President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering support for the League of Arab States (LAS), and stressed the organistaion’s pivotal role as the primary framework for safeguarding Arab interests and boosting co-operation among Arab nations in pursuit of prosperity and development for their peoples.

President Sisi made the remarks during a meeting on Sunday with AL Secretary-General, Ahmed Abul Gheit.

The meeting was held on the occasion of the approaching end of Abul Gheit’s term in office, Presidency Spokesman Mohamed El-Shennway said.

Sisi voiced deep appreciation for Abul Gheit’s leadership during his tenure as secretary general and for his dedicated efforts to enhance the system of joint Arab action and modernise the mechanisms of the League’s General Secretariat, the presidency spokesman added.

The president underscored Egypt’s commitment to continuing its steadfast support for the LAS, describing it as the principal umbrella for defending Arab interests and fostering greater co-operation among member states.

For his part, Abul Gheit voiced his profound gratitude to President Sisi for his consistent support of the LAS and his continued commitment to safeguarding Arab national security and protecting common Arab interests.

He also praised Egypt’s sustained backing of the LAS role as a key platform for advancing Arab relations and promoting shared interests. He also expressed pride in having worked closely with President Sisi and Arab leaders throughout his tenure.

Abul Gheit noted that his period at the helm of the LAS General Secretariat coincided with unprecedented challenges facing Arab national security and collective interests, highlighting the importance of maintaining close co-ordination among Arab countries.

The meeting also reviewed a number of current challenges confronting the Arab security system. Both sides stressed the need to enhance co-operation, co-ordination, and solidarity among Arab states in order to build a better future for coming generations and navigate the sensitive phase currently facing the Arab world.
