Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, outlined the government’s progress in healthcare reform and human development during an open policy dialogue with members of the parliamentary bodies of the Homeland Protectors Party (Homat Watan), reaffirming that healthcare remains a top national priority under President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s development agenda.

The discussions, organised by the party’s parliamentary groups in both the House of Representatives and the Senate on Tuesday, aimed to exchange ideas and develop innovative proposals to support efforts to upgrade Egypt’s healthcare system and strengthen investment in human capital.

Abdel Ghaffar said President Sisi has placed the health sector at the forefront of the state’s priorities, providing sustained political support for efforts to build a more efficient and equitable healthcare system.

The minister reviewed progress in implementing Egypt’s National Health Strategy 2024–2030, which comprises 353 key actions and 692 performance indicators across several strategic pillars, including universal health coverage, disease prevention, health security, equitable access to healthcare, digital innovation and community engagement.

He also highlighted the significant increase in government spending on healthcare, noting that health sector allocations in the 2026 budget reached LE511.2 billion, while total sector-related spending exceeded LE1 trillion.

Abdel Ghaffar said Egypt’s healthcare system currently includes 1,839 hospitals, 147,565 hospital beds, 22,722 intensive care beds, and a workforce of more than 694,500 medical professionals.

Reviewing the sector’s recent achievements, the minister said Egypt’s 15 presidential health initiatives have collectively delivered more than 278.5 million medical services.

He added that the Universal Health Insurance System now covers 69.5 million citizens. He noted that national healthcare projects valued at LE345.2 billion, including Nile Medical City, are helping transform Egypt’s healthcare infrastructure.

For their part, Homeland Protectors Party leaders underscored the importance of investing in human capital and strengthening co-operation among state institutions to develop innovative healthcare solutions.

Party Chairman Mohamed Abbas Helmy praised the continued expansion of the Universal Health Insurance System, describing healthcare as a strategic investment in human development and a cornerstone of national security and sustainable development. He also commended the major advances achieved in the sector through presidential initiatives and infrastructure development.
