President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Sunday inaugurated the New Delta Project in Dabaa City, along the Sheikh Zayed Axis of Giza (formerly Dabaa Axis).

Upon arrival, the president was received by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Hussein Issa, Minister of Defense and Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief General Ashraf Zahir, Chief of Staff General Ahmed Khalifa, Central Bank Governor Hassan Abdullah, Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sweilem, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk, and Colonel Dr. Baha El-Ghannam, Executive Director of the Future of Egypt Authority for Sustainable Development.

The inauguration ceremony began with Quran recitation, followed by a documentary titled “New Delta” and remarks Executive Director of the Future of Egypt for Sustainable Development Authority, Colonel Dr. Bahaa El-Ghannam.

In addition, a water-lifting station was inaugurated via video conference.

Addressing the occasion, President El-Sisi emphasised the project’s success was possible only through divine blessing and the efforts of the Egyptian people, Presidency Spokesman Mohamed El-Shenawy, said.

Sisi urged citizens to take pride in the achievement, noting the challenges overcome and the collaboration of state institutions and private sector companies -150 firms in agricultural production alone.

The president highlighted that the project cost nearly EGP 800 billion, with per-feddan investment ranging from EGP 350,000 to 400,000, and included 12,000 km of new roads.

Water supply was secured by treating agricultural drainage water from Delta governorates and channeling it through two 150 km-long lined paths, requiring 19 major pumping stations to irrigate 2.2 million feddans. Power generation facilities with a total capacity of about 2,000 MW were also established, Spokesman El-Shennawy said.

President Sisi outlined the strategic vision of integrating old and new farmlands: traditional crops like wheat and corn in fertile Nile soils, while desert lands focus on crops suited to sandy terrain, such as sugar beet. The project is expected to create around two million sustainable jobs.

He stressed that full self-sufficiency in all crops is unattainable globally due to climatic and environmental factors, noting Egypt’s annual imports of 14–17 million tonnes of fodder in addition to wheat. He underscored that development is a continuous process, citing parallel agricultural projects in Minya, Beni Suef, Kom Ombo, Toshka, East Oweinat, and Sinai.

Following the ceremony, the president toured facilities including the water-lifting station, control systems, and wheat harvesting sites, before posing for a commemorative photo with workers. He concluded his visit by inspecting sugar beet production.
