President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met on Tuesday with Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, during the Africa–France Summit in Nairobi.

President Sisi expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the IMF’s support in implementing its economic reform program. He welcomed the successful completion of the fifth and sixth reviews in February and reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to continue reforms despite global and regional challenges.

Georgieva praised Egypt’s strong political will and serious commitment to reform, noting progress in macroeconomic stability, fiscal discipline, and improving the business climate. She stressed the IMF’s keenness to maintain close cooperation with Egypt.

The meeting also addressed the economic impact of the Iran crisis and regional uncertainty, particularly on energy and food security in import-dependent countries. The Egyptian president emphasized the need for international financial institutions and development partners to support developing nations. He highlighted Egypt’s proactive measures, including maintaining exchange rate flexibility as a key tool to absorb shocks.

Georgieva outlined IMF initiatives to help member states confront current challenges, reaffirming the Fund’s commitment to continued support for Egypt’s reform path.
