President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has reasserted Egypt’s profound faith in the value of dialogue between peoples of the world of all denominations and ethnicities and Egypt’s constant openness to all religions and communities.
The president’s remarks came while meeting the leader of India’s Dawoodi Bohra community, Mufaddal Saifuddin, in the presence of the head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service, Abbas Kamel, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.
Accompanying the visiting Bohra sect’s leader were his sons, prince Jaafar as-Sadeq, prince Taha and prince Hussein.
At the outset of the meeting, President Sisi welcomed Sultan Saifuddin’s visit to Cairo, recalling the firm and historical ties between Egypt and the Bohras and expressing profound appreciation of the community’s role in the restoration of a number of Cairo’s ancient mosques, the latest of which were those of Sayyeda Nafisa, Sayeda Zainab and al-Hussain.
Such efforts, the president noted, come in complementation of the state’s efforts to upgrade the vicinities of these mosques and other sites of heritage in the Fatimide part of Cairo. In the course of the meeting, President Sisi emphasised Egypt’s profound faith in the importance of dialogue between all people of the world with all their various denominations and ethnicities as well as Egypt’s openness to all religions and communities. In this context, President Sisi reviewed the efforts made by the government to promote the principle of citizenship on the basis of equality, peaceful co-existence, the freedom of
choice and the freedom of belief.
For his part, Sultan Saifuddin expressed high valuation of the current path that Egypt enjoys under the leadership of President Sisi regarding the freedom to practice religious rituals and the peaceful coexistence between all
communities, thereby guaranteeing a stable atmosphere of social peace for all.
