Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi directed the government to expedite the completion of construction works in the International Olympic City (IOC) in the New Administrative Capital and all its facilities according to the set timetables and based on the highest international specifications in a manner that maximises the city’s ability and readiness to host major international sports events.

The president’s remarks came during his meeting on Tuesday with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Presidential Advisor for National and Strategic Projects Eng Sherif Ismail as well as a host of ministers and top government officials, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.

The president was also briefed, during the meeting, on the progress of work in the various components of the Egypt International Olympic City, which constitutes a huge sports edifice that would provide services according to the highest international standards. The Olympic city contains stadiums, covered halls for various individual and group games, in addition to various service areas, including medical and hotel facilities, administrative buildings and public squares.

The president also called for upgrading the sports infrastructure in Egypt in general, including stadiums and halls, various sports and training grounds and related technical and logistical services with the comprehensive and integrated development of infrastructure and hotels at the state level. This infrastructure should reflect Egypt’s ability to host the largest international tournaments and contribute to the cultural and tourism promotion in Egypt.

The meeting also included a presentation on the plans and scenarios regarding the management and operation of the city guided by the international foreign experience in this field, in a manner befitting the city’s size and modern equipment.

Also on Tuesday, the president held another meeting with Presidential Advisor for Urban Planning Amir Sayed Ahmed and head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority Ihab El-Far, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.

During the meeting, the president was briefed on the developments of the mega national project for agricultural production, “New Delta”, which aims to increase the agricultural area in Egypt along the al-Dabaa axis. The project includes, within its scope, several other pivotal projects for agricultural development.

The president called for maintaining plans to enhance land reclamation in the New Delta project and the subsequent establishment of extended urban communities, which would achieve the state’s goals in its quest to establish new comprehensive development centres through horizontal expansion away from the overcrowded areas.
