Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli attended on Wednesday  the signing of several power purchase agreements for renewable energy projects and independent battery storage stations, with a total capacity of 5,620 megawatts. The agreements were signed between the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy and private sector companies, in the presence of Minister Mahmoud Esmat.

The first agreement grants land rights for a 900-megawatt wind farm in Ras Shukeir, developed by a consortium of Orascom Construction, France’s Engie, and Japan’s Eurus (Toyota). The second agreement covers the purchase of electricity from the same project.

A third agreement was signed with Egypt United Group “Kemit” for multiple projects: a 2,000-megawatt solar plant in Nag Hammadi, a 2,000-megawatt-hour battery storage station in Nag Hammadi, and two solar plants in Al-Owaynat with capacities of 320 and 400 megawatts.

Minister Esmat stressed that these projects align with Egypt’s integrated energy strategy, aiming to raise renewable energy’s share to over 42% by 2030 and 65% by 2040. He highlighted the importance of battery storage systems to stabilize the national grid, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and cut carbon emissions. He emphasized the role of private investment in advancing clean energy and supporting Egypt’s economic growth.
