MINYA, Upper Egypt – Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli said that sanitation projects represent a top priority on the agenda of the presidential initiative Decent Life.

He said the state seeks the expansion of the sewerage network in all villages within the framework of the state’s efforts to improve services offered to people, especially in the Upper Egypt villages and deprived areas.

This came during Madbouli’s inspection of sewage treatment station in Bardbat village, western Maghagha in Minya, that was implemented within the first stage of the Decent Life initiative.

Housing Minister Sherif Sherbini said his ministry seeks expediting the implementation of Decent Life projects, especially drinking water and sanitation projects.

He said 192 villages in Minya are due to benefit from the initiative’s projects.

He noted that integrated sanitation service projects have so far been implemented in 39 villages in Minya.

Eng. Ihab Khedr, the Head of the National Organization for Potable Water and Sanitary Drainage (NOPWASD), told Madbouli that the sewage treatment station in Bardbat village – at EGP 650 million – serves about 200,000 people in 17 villages in western Maghagha.

The 11-feddan station’s treatment capacity stands at 20,000 cubic meters per day, he said.

At the end of the tour, the premier had a photo opportunity with workers at the station.
