Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has directed the continued daily monitoring of subsidised bread and goods systems, stressing the need to maintain steady supplies of essential commodities in adequate quantities and to address any complaints or disruptions promptly to ensure citizens’ needs are consistently met.
The prime minister made the remarks during a meeting with Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk to review key ministry files, including the operation of subsidised bread and goods systems, commodity availability, strategic reserves, market stability and measures to ensure subsidies reach eligible recipients.
Deputy Chairman of the General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC) Mostafa Ismail, Assistant Minister for Technical Affairs Ahmed Kamal, and Assistant to the Minister for Oversight, Eissa Kamal, were present at the meeting.
During the meeting, PM Madbouly reviewed the subsidised bread system, confirming the availability of flour for bakeries to ensure uninterrupted production and regular bread distribution.
He underscored the importance of daily monitoring and immediate intervention to resolve any issues affecting the system.
Supply minister, for his part, reviewed efforts to maintain the availability and distribution of subsidised goods through various outlets in line with demand, alongside continuous monitoring of stocks and quantities.
He also outlined measures to verify and audit subsidy and ration-card data, aimed at improving system efficiency, ensuring support reaches eligible recipients and safeguarding their rights under applicable regulations.
Farouk further reviewed basic commodity stocks and strategic reserves, measures to meet market demand and maintain safe inventory levels, as well as ongoing market and price monitoring.
He also presented developments in the initiative to reduce commodity prices, launched under the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Eighteen new items have been added, bringing the total number of products covered from 12 to 30, with the initiative seeking to increase supply, regulate markets and offer essential food and consumer goods at suitable prices and in adequate quantities.
