Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Tuesday reviewed government efforts to ensure the availability of essential commodities and stabilise markets and prices.
During his meeting with Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk on Tuesday, Prime Minister Madbouly stressed the importance of maintaining efforts by all relevant authorities to ensure adequate supplies at affordable prices, in line with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives.
He also called for continued expansion of fixed and mobile sales outlets, saying this would help stabilise markets and keep prices under control.
Minister Farouk said a six-month price-reduction initiative, running from September 2026 to March 2027, is being implemented through 284 outlets nationwide.
The initiative currently covers 12 commodities, with 18 additional items expected to be added and offered through participating outlets by the end of September.
Farouk said the ministry had stepped up supplies of basic commodities and expanded its network of outlets and markets to reach consumers across the country.
On market oversight, Farouk said meetings had been held with the Consumer Protection Agency and Supply Police, resulting in the formation of a joint committee to monitor market conditions. The committee will meet regularly to follow up on commodity availability and price developments.
