Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy followed up on Thursday to review current and planned projects in the clean energy sector.
The meeting formed part of regular monitoring of renewable energy projects, in line with Egypt’s national energy strategy, which aims to raise the share of renewables in the energy mix to 45% by 2028.
The minister outlined efforts to expand solar, wind and hydropower generation, alongside battery storage projects, with current storage capacity reaching 1,100 MWh.
Plans for 2026–2029 target a 144% increase in solar capacity and a 400% rise in wind capacity, bringing total renewable energy capacity to more than 29,700 MW. Battery storage capacity is also set to expand to 14,320 MWh by 2029.
The minister also highlighted improvements in fuel efficiency compared with 2014, as well as progress on green hydrogen and seawater desalination projects, including a planned integrated desalination complex in El-Dabaa.
Madbouly stressed the importance of ensuring the timely implementation of projects, supporting the necessary infrastructure and strengthening international partnerships to secure sustainable energy and water resources.
