CAIRO – Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli on Thursday said President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has issued directives to install large-scale capacity of renewable energy to state’s power grid.

Madbouli added that president emphasised keenness on dedicating the first Cabinet’s meeting after formation of the new government to follow up on measures adopted by ministries and bodies concerned to handle the power cuts problem and reach a permanent solution to it in line with a plan announced by the government throughout the past period.

The premier made the remarks during the first meeting of the newly-appointed government to review progress achieved in solving the electricity problem and ending the load-shedding program, in the presence of Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Finance Ahmed Kojak, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi alongside officials of ministries and bodies concerned.

Speaking to the newly-appointed ministers, the premier said: “You are entitled to outline a permanent solution to the electricity problem. We have previously submitted an exceptional solution for the current summer months, through pledging to secure some 1.2 billion dollars to finance the purchase of petroleum materials needed for operating power plants.”

“We have promised to provide the final solution by the end of the year, a matter that requires taking measures ensuring the implementation,” Madbouli added.

Egypt has set up power stations and electricity grids accommodating the local energy consumption, with a surplus secured as well, the premier said, noting that these stations require efficiency for ensuring their operation.

Meanwhile, the minister of electricity and renewable energy highlighted the amount of renewable energy that will be added to the country’s power grid shortly.

Petroleum minister reviewed efforts to import needed shipments of petroleum materials to the electricity sector. He expounded an underway comprehensive plan to ensure increasing the oil production.
