Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has stressed that food and water security are top priorities for Egypt, describing them as essential to meeting citizens’ basic needs and achieving sustainable development.
Madbouly made the remarks during a meeting on Sunday to review preparations for a session themed “Food and Water Security: Today’s Challenges and Future Safeguards” at Egypt Forum 2026.
The meeting was attended by Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Hani Swailem, Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk, Agriculture and Land Reclamation Minister Alaa Farouk, and Major General Khaled Salah, Secretary-General of the Future of Egypt Authority for Sustainable Development.
Madbouly said the government was reviewing all forum sessions as preparations continued for the event, which President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has directed to be held from October 19 to 24. The forum aims to showcase Egypt’s comprehensive development efforts and achievements across various sectors in recent years.
The food and water security session will examine current challenges and the government’s efforts to increase self-sufficiency, narrow the import gap and make better use of available resources, Madbouly said.
Officials reviewed the session’s main themes, including population growth, climate change, limited water resources, volatile markets and disruptions to global supply chains.
The discussions will also highlight efforts by government institutions to address these challenges, particularly through the Future of Egypt Authority and the ministries concerned.
The forum will also assess progress in implementing state projects and set out clear, sustainable plans to protect national resources and ensure citizens’ basic needs are met.
