Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli and his accompanying delegation inspected the Roll-on/Roll-off (RORO) car terminal operated by the Suez Canal Automotive Terminal (SCAT) during his tour on Saturday of the integrated East Port Said zone, affiliated to the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE).

During the visit, Chairman of the General Authority of the SCZONE Walid Gamal el Din highlighted the station’s strategic importance, noting that it is set to become one of the largest RORO service centers in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Leveraging its strategic location on the Suez Canal, the terminal is expected to significantly enhance the competitiveness of East Port Said Port and contribute to Egypt’s efforts to localize and develop the automotive industry.

Madbouli received a detailed presentation about the project and its progress.

CEO of SCAT Ashraf Osama explained that this will be Egypt’s first dedicated terminal for RORO car and vehicle vessels, being developed and operated under a 30-year concession agreement.

He added that the SCAT consortium is a French-Japanese alliance that includes three major global companies.

The terminal spans 212,000 square meters with a 600-meter berth, targeting the handling of 50,000 vehicles annually, with a total investment of dlrs159 million. The project is expected to create 400 direct job opportunities.

Regarding the construction progress, Osama noted that 90% of the project is complete and the terminal is expected to be fully operational by July, with coordination underway with the Suez Canal Economic Zone to prepare for the arrival of the first vessel.
