Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Monday chaired a meeting of the Governors’ Council to review preparations for the new academic year, which began earlier this week.
The meeting, held at the government headquarters in the New Capital, was attended by Local Development Minister Manal Awad.
Madbouly directed governors to step up monitoring of schools and their surroundings to ensure the regular operation of the educational process and provide a supportive environment for students.
The meeting also discussed market monitoring.
Governors were instructed to intensify inspection campaigns to ensure the availability of essential goods and price stability, particularly for food commodities. Retail outlets were also directed to clearly display prices.
The meeting reviewed the implementation of the government’s price-cutting initiative, launched on 10 September. The initiative currently covers around 284 outlets nationwide, offering 12 basic commodities at reduced prices.
Another 18 commodities will be added during September, bringing the total to 30. The initiative will run for six months, from September 2026 to March 2027, including Ramadan.
Madbouly also followed up on the “Greening All Governorates” project, stressing the need to expand green spaces and plant trees along major roads, at city and village entrances and in vacant areas.
He further directed governors to personally follow up on cleanliness, lighting, roads, water and sanitation services, as well as citizens’ complaints, stressing the need to address the causes of complaints and improve daily public services.
