The inhabited areas will increase 1 percent to stand at 8 percent under the sustainable development for urban development (2018/2019-2021-2022).

New cities and urban communities will be established to absorb 10 million people by 2022.

Under the plan, more than one third of general investments will be allocated for urban development in Upper Egypt and border governorates.

In statements on Saturday according to MENA, Egyptian Planning Minister Hala el-Saeed said the plan also aims at reducing energy consumption, cutting greenhouse gas emissions, and expanding clean energy and recycling projects.

Saeed underlined the importance of rallying efforts among all ministries and state bodies to promote the environment mechanism and green economy.

She noted that this will positively affect the living standards of people.
