On the sidelines of the World Bank Group and IMF Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom held talks with World Bank Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer Anshula Kant to discuss expanding development co‑operation and advancing innovative financing mechanisms.
During the meeting, Rostom reviewed key indicators of the Egyptian economy, highlighting its growing resilience and ability to maintain positive growth despite global economic challenges and regional geopolitical tensions.
The minister also outlined the main features of Egypt’s National Economic Transformation Programme, which is currently being developed in line with presidential directives to strengthen macroeconomic stability, build on recent structural reforms, and stimulate investment and production.
Discussions focused on progress in developing the Infrastructure Financing Guarantee Mechanism in partnership with the World Bank. Rostom stressed the importance of the initiative, describing it as a major step towards attracting private investment and providing innovative long‑term financing solutions in local currency.
He explained that the mechanism is designed to reduce investment risks for the private sector, improve the efficiency of public spending, ease financing pressures on the state budget, and support the sustainability of infrastructure projects.
