Planning and Economic Development Minister Ahmed Rostom and Beheira Governor Jacqueline Azar concluded their tour of the governorate with an inspection of the Rasheed Port development project and the restoration of Rasheed’s historic city centre.

The Rasheed Port project, valued at LE700 million, covers 48,000 square metres and includes modern infrastructure, new berths, specialised ship maintenance workshops and integrated marine services. It is being implemented in two phases, with facilities ranging from ship painting workshops and fish processing units to ice production plants and customs facilities, aimed at boosting shipbuilding, repair and related industries. The project is expected to generate over 5,000 direct and indirect jobs.

The tour also covered the restoration of Rasheed’s historic core, including the Al-Amasili House, a landmark of Ottoman-era Islamic architecture built in 1808. The site forms part of a wider heritage zone with more than 20 historic houses, mosques and mills, making Rasheed the second largest concentration of Islamic monuments in Egypt after Cairo. Local traders praised the urban upgrades for improving the city’s appearance, easing traffic and stimulating commerce.

Officials stressed that the projects will enhance Rasheed’s role as a hub for maritime, industrial and tourism activity, while preserving its cultural identity. The initiatives form part of Egypt’s broader strategy to modernise ports, strengthen infrastructure and revitalise heritage cities to support sustainable development.
