The Egyptian National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG) in a statement on Monday ruled out the possibility that Egypt would be hit by a tsunami after a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Turkey and Syria last week.
The statement, received by the cabinet Media Centre, said the NRIAG is closely following up any seismic activity or quakes through the Egyptian National Seismic Network (ENSN), adding that there are no signs that a tsunami or quake would hit the country any time soon.
The centre urged the public to check the veracity of reports of this nature before publication on social media.
