Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine Kabbag has discussed with representatives of the NGOs operating in the environmental field their participation in the United Nations’ Conference of Parties on Climate Change (COP27), which is due to be held in Sharm el Sheikh in November.

The meeting, which was attended by Environment Minister Yassmine Fouad, also reviewed the efforts exerted by the NGOs in the environmental field, which include waste recycling, bioenergy generation, rationalizing the use of water and energy along with spreading environmental awareness.

The NGOs’ representatives said that their participation in the conference reflects the confidence of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in their capabilities and their crucial role in carrying out national projects.

They also affirmed that they will exert every possible effort in order to render the conference successful.

It is important to draw up a unified vision to the participation of the NGOs in the environmental sustainability issues and promoting the green economy, said the social solidarity minister.

The effective societal participation is crucial in adopting positive behaviors in order to preserve the environment, she went on to say.

The environment minister, for her part, pointed out to the several activities which are carried out between her Ministry and the Social Solidarity Ministry.

She also referred to the “Safe Shore” initiative, which aims to protect the fishermen and provide them with all the necessary equipment, also severs the environment.

The minister also underlined the need of encouraging the biogas technology in the Egyptian villages in order to benefit from the agriculture and animal wastes.
