The National Alliance for Civil Development Work (NACDW) launched on Tuesday several initiatives to provide financial and nutritional support to the most deserving families, especially as the new school year approaches.

The move came in implementation of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives to care for the underprivileged.

The NACDW encompasses the General Federation of non-governmental organisations (NGOs), all regional and specific federations and leading civil society organisations.

The financial support of LE56 million for 107,000 families came through the Egyptian Zakat and Charity House, while the Egyptian Food Bank supplied meals for 35,000 schoolchildren in ten governorates with a cost of LE1million per day —LE200 million for the academic year.

The Orman Association spent LE20 million to organise the nationwide school stationery fair.

Children were invited to obtain school equipment free of charge.

President Sisi recently ordered the allocation of an additional LE1 billion in government support to the NACDW, bringing state funding for the alliance to a total of LE10 billion.

This coincides with the Year of Civil Society as part of efforts to promote social protection for those most in need.

The NACDW, which comprises 24 associations and civil society organisations, was launched in March to ensure effective engagement of civil society institutions in developing communities and meeting their needs in services, health and education.

The NACDW will continue its social protection initiative, ‘Wasl el-Khair’ to nutritional, medical and social care as well as economic empowerment opportunities to 5 million families in 2022.
