The National Alliance for Civil Development Work (NACDW) signed a co-operation protocol with the Ministry of Agriculture to coordinate efforts on implementing the state strategy of achieving food security, through the provision of national plans, programmes and projects.
This comes in implementation of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives to the National Alliance for Civil Development Work, in its first conference, to extend bridges of co-operation between the authorities concerned to support and develop agriculture as one of the most important strategic files for the comprehensive development of the Egyptian state.
The protocol was signed by representative of the National Alliance for Civil Development Work, Noha Talaat, who serves as Secretary of the Alliance, and Minister of Agriculture al-Sayed al-Quseir, representing the Ministry of Agriculture.
Talaat underscored the directives of President Sisi to the alliance to make every effort to support Egyptian farmers through efforts and ambitious initiatives that would raise the level of Egyptian farms and agriculture and achieve the optimal investment of resources.
She noted that the directives of the president of the coalition included the need to pay attention to both Egyptian farms and agriculture, because of their special importance to the Egyptian economy and state.
Talaat added that the alliance, as part of its efforts to support Egyptian agriculture, launched the “I Plant” initiative last November, with the aim of increasing the arable land area and expanding the production of strategic crops, especially wheat, to achieve food security, reduce the import bill, and improve the income of hundreds of thousands of small farmers.
For his part, Minister al-Quseir said that this protocol comes within the framework of the directives of President Sisi on the need for concerted efforts by the government and civil society institutions to achieve sustainable development.
He noted that cooperation with the alliance includes several agricultural initiatives as well as raising awareness in civil society.
Al-Quseir praised the gathering of the entities of the alliance under one umbrella, pointing out that the areas of cooperation will include rural development, improvement of breeds, modernisation of irrigation systems and small and medium enterprises in order to raise the standard of living of small farmers and breeders.
He added that the Ministry always welcomes cooperation with civil society institutions, stressing that all the resources of the Ministry are harnessed to serve and support the developmental civil work through the formation of a joint committee between the Ministry and the coalition to follow up the implementation of the areas of cooperation that were agreed upon.
