The Ministry of Health and Boehringer Ingelheim, one of the world’s leading research-driven pharmaceutical companies, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen co-operation in developing Egypt’s healthcare system, with a focus on improving stroke management.

The MoU was signed by Dr Mohamed Hassani, Assistant Minister for Public Health Initiatives, and Dr Ahmed Mohamed Aboul Farag, Medical Director at Boehringer Ingelheim for North, East and West Africa.

Minister of Health and Population Dr Khaled Abdel Ghaffar attended the signing ceremony.

The initiative forms part of the ministry’s broader efforts to reduce mortality and disability rates associated with stroke.

Minister Abdel Ghaffar described the agreement as a major step toward enhancing Egypt’s National Stroke Network through infrastructure development, workforce training, and the standardisation of rapid response protocols in line with international best practices.

General Manager of BoehringerIngelheim for North, East, and West Africa Dr Mohamed Moshref reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting the advancement of healthcare in Egypt by sharing global expertise and delivering training and technical assistance.

Also on Tuesday, the minister of health witnessed the signing of a co-operation protocol with Sanofi Egypt to improve natural childbirth and reduce the incidence of medically unnecessary cesarean sections.

The protocol falls under the second pillar of the presidential initiative “The Golden 1,000 Days,” aiming to enhance maternal and child health services nationwide.

Minister Abdel Ghaffar commended the achievements of the initiative and the productive collaboration with Sanofi, reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to expanding health and awareness services to reach communities across all governorates.
