CAIRO – Moroccan Ambassador in Cairo Ahmed Al Tazy has praised the Egyptian state’s approach under President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to confront the misuse of religion and the exploitation of religious beliefs for promoting destructive agendas aimed at threatening the security of citizens and causing social and political instability.

The Moroccan diplomat’s statements came in a speech he delivered on behalf of his country’s minister of Awqaf and Islamic affairs at the 13th session of Executive Council of the Conference of Ministers of Awqaf (endowments) and Islamic Affairs that started on Monday in Cairo under the auspices of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli.

He said the Islamic countries have become all the more aware of the importance of adopting such an upright approach to fight extremism and protect peoples.

The gathering tackled a number of topics tabled on its agenda, as well as reviewed the experiences of the ministries of Islamic affairs and endowments in building and maintaining mosques, and the regulations of appointing imams, preachers, and muezzins, regulating fatwa as well as fighting hate speech, extremism and terrorism.

Countries participating in the meeting include Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Jordan, Kuwait, Gambia, Pakistan and Indonesia.
